Transform4Europe Alliance invites academic and non-academic staff holding top and middle managerial positions at the universities (i.e. rectors, vice-rectors, deans, vice-deans, department chairs and others in management positions) to participate in the online course "Too Much, Too Extensive, Too Busy: Navigating through Delegation", which will take place on 25 July, 10.00–12.30 CET, MS Teams. Lecturers – prof. dr. Anita Trnavčević and prof. dr. Rok Strašek (University of Primorska).
Universities are large institutions that employ many staff and serve numerous students. They are highly professional environments that also encourage creativity. Managing or leading such institutions can be demanding.
University managers and leaders are often appointed through an election process. They come from various academic disciplines, bringing diverse management and leadership experiences and knowledge. Many rely on a "learn on the go" approach to navigate the complexities of a demanding academic environment.
One essential skill that can help save time for managers and leaders while improving the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of universities is delegation. Various enterprises offer delegation training, and there is an abundance of advice available online. However, management involves more than just skills or theoretical knowledge; it also encompasses self-awareness, values, and attitudes. Delegation is intertwined with management and leadership styles, decision-making processes in universities, and the broader legal context.
This workshop will provide an overview of the context of delegation and create a space for participants to share their experiences through group discussions. In conclusion, we will reflect on the discussions and connect them to broader theoretical concepts.
