Learning structure

Short description. During the course the learners will understand the principles of writing essay type argumentative pieces in English. The goal is to overview the major sections of an argumentative essay and explore the typical errors in formulating the argument. During the course the learners will overview logical obstacles to argumentation. The second part of the course will allow students to practice oral argumentation/negotiation using the skills acquired at the beginning of the course

Content:

1. Argumentation principles. Particularities of Anglo American argument. Oral practice

2. Argumentation essay principles. Evidence types. Obstacles to logic. Oral practice

3. Argumentation phrases, avoiding generalizations, oral practice"

Developed skills.

Understand the principles of Anglo-American argumentation

Develop an outline for proper argumentative essay

Improve argumentation skills applying Anglo-American argumentation principles

Target group. VMU academic and non-academic staff. 

Duration. 6 hours.

Place. The course will take place online.

Professional development practices by groups of competencies. Group 1 - general (foreign languages, intercultural communication, and cooperation, management, etc.).

The direction of professional development practices. Level B training programme (experienced) - for those wishing to develop and/or acquire new competencies or to maintain existing qualifications.
