Learning structure

Short description. The course is designed for independent users of English who write texts on academic topics and desire to develop their academic writing skills. Throughout the course, participants familiarize themselves with different types of sentences in English; learn to distinguish between and formulate simple, complex and compound sentences; develop their ability to choose the type of sentence that can convey their idea best; and get to know how to make their academic texts more coherent. 

 Content:

English sentence structure and word order

Types of sentences 

Simple and compound sentences

Relative and noun clauses

Clauses of reason, result and purpose 

Clauses of contrast and concession

Reported speech

Passive voice

Sentence problems and common mistakes

 Developed skills. Having completed the course, participants are able to distinguish between different types of sentences, choose the structures that conveys their ideas best and formulate different sentences without mistakes that would obscure the meaning conveyed in their academic text.  

 Target group. VMU academic personnel.

 Duration. 20 hours.

 PlaceThe course will be held online.

 Professional development practices by groups of competencies. Group 1 - general (foreign languages).

The direction of professional development practices. Level B training programme (experienced) - for those wishing to develop and/or acquire new competencies or to maintain existing qualifications.
